From the margins to the mainstream of society, Marie's Crisis follows the evolution of Gay identity from its origins in the Industrial Revolution through the events of the Sip In and the Stonewall, up to and beyond marriage equality and now the struggle between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.  Through being "other-ized" for such a long period of time, the Gay community has developed its own language, norms and values.  Musical theater is one of the Gay community's key signs and signifiers that form the pillars of Gay culture.  Marie's Crisis stands right at the center of that connection, and has done so throughout those formative decades.
