At the center of Marie's Crisis is the American musical theater, which has its roots right in New York City.  And the core of the establishment is the critical mass of musical theater aficionados, which is only possible to accumulate in New York City.  The film goes into the history of Broadway with its roots in both the Gay and Jewish communities of New York.  Marie's is deeply meaningful to the incredibly loyal patrons, serving as a sort of 'reality theater,' or 'theater vérité' in their lives.
